2001 Defender 110 Td5 CSW Java Black
Laughing I agree they are a lovely engine really. Lots will tell you they are unreliable and go for a 300 tdi because it's simple but the fact of the matter is I had one years ago and spent longer and more money keeping that going than I have my TD5! Now I've jinxed it Confused 2001 TD5 110 County Station Wagon - sold

51 plate TD5 with 130k and hasn't missed a beat. However has recently developed an oil leak but should be a cheap fix with replacing a few gaskets. Love it.

2001 Defender 90 Td5 CSW Epsom Green
After this weekend, the my 51' Plate 90 Td5 CSW has just clocked up 108,000. Sweet as a nut, bar a transfer box leak (dont they all?). 2001 Td5 CSW (weekend and snow mobile) Plenty of lights, M/T tyres EGR delete, roofrack, swing away wheel carrier, snorkel.

Mines on 95k had it since 52k - serviced it well and regular.

Apart from a few serviceable parts and an annual check by a good indie - all good.

(mine has a plug in power box thingy that was in the car when I bought it - not something I would fit, but works well giving 150/160BHP I think)

A 300tdi can't pull over 90 on a motorway and keep up with modern motorways speeds? (Having said that neither can my ears!!)

Tweak the fueling and up the boost on a 300Tdi and they'll top 90 without to much effort!

Same with the TD5!

2000 110 ht 140k almost now
The last year has been costly but mostly not engine
Clutch and dual mass
Ecu
Injector seals
Fuel pump
And a fuel filter housing

Now it's nice to drive and starts / pulls nicely

Best money i spent was £10 having the wheels balanced

I bought my 2002 Defender 90 Td5 in 2007 with 133.000 km on the clock. So far 340.000 km total.
At 230k I had a bad week: the gearbox went broke, the transferbox went broke and the turbo became noisy. Apart from that the clutch and flywheel have been replaced, I needed a another ECU as the engine went dead on the motorway a few times while the computer readout showed nothing wrong, the fuel pump, injector loom, FPR and fuel cooler have all been replaced over time, and very recently the mass air flow meter. And boy, that made a difference!
It uses half a litre of engine oil every 10.000 km. Overall that's not bad, I think. I plan to keep the car for many years.

Tillerman.
