I've got a couple of these. great things. ideal for laning days/weekends out
Interesting that even when new they have that stained yellow colour.... I just thought it was all the cups of tea we drunk on ex that tainted them!  |

Sorry for dragging an old thread back up.
For those that got one of these, how long should it keep stuff hot for? I want to use this for the first time so I left a kettle full of boiling water inside for about 5 hours to test and it's stone cold? None of the seals are leaking and ok it might work better if it was full, but would of thought it would work better than this? They should keep food/fluids hot for 8 hrs. BUT it's the same as a flask, if left unopened for that time its perfect. Everytime you open it you will lose heat. Everytime you remove some of the hot liquid/food and replace it with cold air, it speeds up the cooling process.

But that was the thing. I put a (large) kettle of hot water in there just to test. It remained unopened for 5 hours. When I opened it, the water was stone cold, not even a hint of warmth left. Mate, I think that you may be expecting too much. The best way to use these is to pre heat with a few litres of water for 10mins then remove it and then fill as much as possible to leave as little space as possible. The fuller they are, the more effective they are. Expect no more than an hour for small volume and no more then 3hrs when full (maybe 4?). They are the same principle as a flask of course. Check the seal in the lid and that all of the taps are closed and screwed up tight. Wet items keep hotter than others and best for water rather than actual made brews due to stewing

Yeah, beginning to think that.
It was bought to replace the 3.5l Thermos pump containers that I normally use. These keep water hot enough for drink making for at least 10 hours, but are a pain as they are not sealed and of course don't hold anywhere near as much.
