NAS Rear bumper adaptor for receiver hitch......Help
The legacy of keeping the NAS style rear bumper goes on!

What I am looking at doing is mounting a reciver to a 5mm thick steel plate to bolt onto the holes of the NAS step- this will mount the reciver just above the step. I will then be looking at fitting a NATO jaw ta a reciver plate so can be removed when not in use.

Anyone know of any problems that I will come across? Or even better know of somewhere that manufactures anything like this.

Matt, What did you bolt your NATO hitch to?

Cheers for any input,
Glyn

You know what to do Glyn Whistle 5mm plate sounds a bit weak unless you can weld in plenty of stiffners etc Thumbs Up But i think it will end up looking likes the dogs dinner Rolling with laughter
I struggled to find a solution but in the end opted for the Sarfari Equip 50mm reciever with a drop plate for a normal 50mm ball - a purpose made drop plate for the nato hitch - and a warn 50mm recovery shackle. AndrewS has the same hitch . This allows me me to change from one to another in only a few mins Thumbs Up

The step is staying Twisted Evil . I was meant to write 15mm, basically just lump of metal that wouldn't flex. I notice Devon 4x4 do something similar

but imagine it upside down and bolted onto the rear step by the Dixon Bate ball/jaw combo.

Might work but i would still want something to brace the top of it back to the crossmember Thumbs Up Why the need for a nato hitch?
You could always modify your nas step to be the same as the original nas step which had the 2" reciever in it Thumbs Up

Now that I am pretty happy with where I am with the fender I am moving onto a trailer Smile Once I have that sorted I can looki into a few expeditions when I return to UK in September.

Modifying the Step to receiver is on my mind too, just the extra work involved. ut if that is all I can do I will have to go down that route.

would not take a lot of work, you would need to cut a hole approx 60mm square in the plate where the holes are for the ball to weld in a min of 5mm wall thickness box section and a few gussets in the rear Thumbs Up it would look a much smarter solution Thumbs Up

Can you make a bracket like the dixon bate slider but bigger and with two pins that will go onto your dixon bate system? Fit a couple of anderson connectors so you can throw it in the boot when towing?

Remember if you modify or mess around with the tow bar and tow - it needs to be type approved Mike

James,

I can't attach that to what I have got. Here is a picture of the rear step/ tow hitch I have

This is what I am lookin at doing:

Red is 15-20mm thick plate,
Yellow is 2" Receiver

It is just a rough idea but I am sure I will gome to a good solution in the end.

The fun police are here Razz . I do realise this and it would be made to bulletproof standards....but remember that type aproval only covers something for the moment in time it is manufactured (A bit like a MOT) as there are some really bad states out there which are 'type approved'.

Yeah i dont conform - but seen people done for it and its not nice.

The type approval applies to all aftermarket tow equipment and will apply to anything you would use to tow off.

Recovery of course wouldnt apply. Mike
