See how much play there is on the diff pinion - grab the prop and see what moves!
Could also be any of the other rear bushes - trailing arms for example. |

My bet is play on diff pinion splines. Take off and put back on with loctite was the technical repair!
If not rear drive flanges worn! |

Thanks very much. I have just checked the Haynes manual and it shows the rear drive flange and half shaft as one piece, can you confirm this is complete tosh ?

Earlier ones where one piece but the later ones have separate drive flange.

I have a clonk that is rather helpful as when I get a clonk I know that I forgot to grease the prop. Id say start at the props first as its a damn sight easier to attend to and potentially the cause

Thankfully Saturday looks nice, I think I'll be I under the Defender then. Thanks for the replies, glad the Haynes manual is right
