A reasonable upgrade is to swap the headlights to Wipac crystals and fit some uprated bulbs. I've been very pleased with Philips Vision Plus but lots of folks seem to like the Osrams too. Darren

I fitted a pair of PIAA extreme brilliant white H4s to my defender 3 years ago, still delighted with them, i've just put some of the same on my BMW for the winter. PIAAs are a little more expensive but seem to last and are bright !

A luddite view here but is there anything really wrong with the standard lights - I drive regularly at night and find them fine for the job. By that I mean they illuminate everything I need to see driving a 2 tonne bus with wallowy suspension at the appropriate speed.
OK if you are going rallying or lamping then your needs are different. By way of background, I should have had shares in Ring when I was younger and recently had a RRS with the super duper Bi Xenon lamps that moved with the steering wheel - didn't really do that much more for me. Only toy that did tickle me from time to time was the auto dip function. However, if I had to then upgrade bulbs would be my option - the less you hang off the front the less to go wrong. Your Safari lights did a great job keeping snow out of your radiator ![]() |

Bulb upgrade seems most attractive at the moment.....now the massive Safari 5000s are off I am thinking less is probably best! Osram Night breakers are not a bad a price on ebay.

I have Wipac Crystal & Phillips X-treme Vision (but have Osram Nigh Breakers as spares).
The Phillips chrome tips look good with the Wipacs silvery appearance. Yes bling, but the black ends of standard bulbs look like a fly trapped inside. Last year's floods made me change as sod's law made it that dipping from main meant unlit water on the road due to spattered windscreen & the other cars' dazzle. Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Not a fashion vehicle, but fashionable to own. Made for the needy, not the greedy. I have the crystal lens headlights and I am very pleased with their outcome, so much better than the standard headlights, just with a change of lens makes all the difference. However I will be getting some LED spots, most likely Lazer light as it seems they are the only ones that are E rated, although a little pricey!
