How does something like that affect warranty? Completely null and void or will they cover unrelated stuff? Such as electrics, corrosion, axles? Cheers, David

The reason of the Galv chassis was to void the warranty which made it perfect for a 3.2 conversion
This was the wish of the previous owner !

I wonder if the technician would even notice if it was just a 3.2 conversion!? Cheers, David

2015 Defender 110 Puma 2.2 USW Java Black
First post on here after lurking for many a while.

We currently have a modified 110 TD5 (which replaced a soft-top V8 90) which we've been using to truck back and forth between UK and Italy where we've been restoring some houses. It's a great vehicle but time for an update. Our business is new vehicle launches and we do quite a lot of work with Jaguar Land Rover so have driven many of their engines and was always interested in the TDV6 conversion until the 3.2 came along. I went up to Nene to drive theirs earlier in the year and came away hugely impressed - although the price of the engine conversion alone was enough to make me fall off the proverbial stool.

So the idea went on the back burner until I happened to spot this during a Pistonheads browsing moment. I spoke with Sam, checked with Pete Bell that he was kosher (!) and arranged to see the car during a trip back from Italy. It's not the spec I'm looking for but I was interested to see the work done and the quality. Sam was going to be out at work so he arranged for Big Steve to have the vehicle and I popped up to have a look and go out for a drive.

Firstly - to those that think this is overpriced, I think you're wrong. Expensive maybe - decent engine conversions always are as the cost of the engine alone accounts for a large chunk. But overpriced - definitely not. If you want a TDCI conversion the only other option (that I'm aware of) is Nene and to get the same spec from them at this price you would have needed to buy the base vehicle for 8-10k. Now if anyone can show me where to pick up a 2011 for that money can you see if they have a nice XS spec station wagon with air-con and climate pack? Wink

Secondly - the quality of the work done is, in my opinion, excellent. Both Sam - on the phone and email - and Steve in person, were happy to give me chapter and verse about what has been done and why. Having owned modified cars for many years (another car we have out in Italy is a modified Lotus Elise S1 which my wife's had for 10+ years) and Defenders for 20+ years, I think I'm a reasonable judge of whether people are blustering or whether they know their onions and these guys know theirs.

As I said at the start I wasn't going there with a view to buying this particular vehicle but more to see whether I might get Sam to do a conversion on a TDCI that I supply. If I can get the right vehicle at the right price and make the numbers add up then I'd have no hesitation in using him.

Go and see it and drive it and decide whether it's worth the money to you, then let us know.

Thanks again to Sam and Steve.

David

PS. Attached pic is of the 110 (now minus roof rack and tent), our old 90 (now owned by a friend from whom we have first refusal to buy-back!) and Trusty Rusty, a 23k mile from new 1983 RR Vogue (previous owner, H Metcalfe and currently in storage whilst we are in Italy)

Does the 3.2 conversion sit slightly out of line with the car, or is that just a funny camera angle (in the original advert BTW) A man with no boat is a prisoner
