You'll have to chop a section out of the lower dash to let the radio fit, but it will work other than that.

Cheers chaps. The chopping of the dash is the PITA...but...oh well out with the grinder...

There is no need to use a grinder, a hacksaw is suficent, it's only a thin gauge steel

Also, the majority of people who install these dashes put the stereo at the bottom, take a look at MUDS website for pictures.
Take your time, put some masking tape on the dash where you are cutting so that you can draw a line to cut to. Make sure there are no stray cables behind where you are cutting. It doesn't have to be the neatest cut in the world, you won't see it but when you've finished protect the cut metal edge with paint to stop it rusting and then gaffer tape folded over it to protect cables from the sharp edge |

I am going to attempt to mount the stereo at the top for the reason of: If (when) I get new stereo with a flip out screen it will obscure the buttons. But if i have to mount it at the bottom I will. 1999 Defender TD5 110

Right update...
Got the Mudstuff dash mounted with the metal frame all screwed up and the moulded dash on. Looks good. Except for When in 1st & 3rd gear the gear stick just touches the lower part of the mud console. The radio in the top slot does not fit in fully, it sits about 1" proud of the mud console. So now I have three options 1. Remove the rear metal section of the mounting plate and cut out a section the plastic panel behind that to make more room 2. Move the radio to the bottom and the Carlings to the top. 3. That's why my radio is in the bottom of mine. To accommodate the length.
The only issue is sometimes, very very rarely, I hit the station change buttons with my hand when changing gear "enthusiastically". Gear lever itself is nowhere near though so that's OK. |

I've heard of some folk removing the gear stick and putting a slight bend in it to stop it hitting the console.

Finally got it fitted. Managed to get the radio in the top and switches below and so far not had to cut out the dash.
Just need to sort out the wiring and sort out the wiring for the rear/wash wiper as I can get the wiper to wipe but no washer. What I would like to do is have it so the switch is on when pressed in at the bottom and not the other way around. More fiddling needed, but for now it will do. I will see what its like to drive and see if I catch my fingers on the lower part of the dash. 1999 Defender TD5 110 Regards John M0VAZ Econet Station 48 no clock |

Nice ... only wish Mudstuff did a replacement unit for the late (2006) TD5 - I've the XS with the silver/grey cover and switches above and to the side of the radio hole ...
They do a screw on cover panel which would at least provide a flat surface to mount the double-din cage too
but will still have to attack it *and* the main panel with the Dremel to cut the slot bigger  ... and it's black as oppose to the silver finish on my dash 
...can't seem to find any spares and even ERC in the USA who did some custom installs won't make/sell any 
Surely a gap in the marketplace and sales opportunity for Killer90 after his gorgeous Puma dash's ?
