Mount Ventoux. Drive up from the south side on the D974. Get up early and watch the mist clear over the Luberon and Provence. Eagles soaring etc. Fantastic views and drive. BM52

GREENI, are you interested in WW2 history?
If so then I recommend a visit to St Nazaire which was a German u-boat dock. It was assaulted by British Marines using a ship to ram the dry dock. I spent a day there, I also visited a nearby hotel which was a make shift hospital during the war and sone of the captured Marines were taken there. Hey Steve, I'm not a huge fan, though I have to say, that building looks a bit interesting, it's all about maritime kamikaze's
@bm, ventoux I will do one day, though when the Tour de France is coming up it, always been on my bucket list. Yobbie, the gorge looks like it just made it on the trip, to visit list. Along with Rocamador

Are you bothered about how far to drive? An indication of where you're sailing to may help inspirational suggestions perhaps not too far away from port of entry?
I spend a great deal of time in France (more and more of late) and Brittany is a lovely area with plenty to see and do from a tourist perspective and the temperature just last week was 10 degrees higher than in the UK. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

An idea of distance wanting to travel would help. France is so vast, I have spent many years of my childhood in France.
We had a second home not far from Saint Nazaire and there is plenty to do in the area, beaches, history etc. not far is noirmoutier, used in the Tour de France last year. Equally the west is great, heading towards the alps, great driving roads, great scenery and perfect for camping. The south has Cannes or Pyrenees. |

 looks awesome.
K9 I'll be going through on the train, not too fussed on distance, we are just rocking wherever we want really, though a few places of interest to fire to is a must. We want nice scenery, quaint cafes etc, no real major touristy things...less people the better

I actually thought he had, but when searching I only found the Richard Holmes programme. Im sure the one I watched originally was the JC programme. Not sure if it was part of his Victoria Cross series where he discovered his father-in-law was a VC recipient? Im wanting to plan a caravaning trip around the Normandy landings when my lad is old enough. |
