Productive morning where the missus' truck got a good wash, polish and wax followed by a tune up.
I then proceeded to see if the Recaro seats I have acquired will fit and how much hassle they will cause: ![]() Click image to enlarge They fit an absolute treat ![]() ![]() Then had a great afternoon with a few beers and some good rugby........ *Cough* 30-3 *Cough*. Couple more jobs done today
Replacing my glass sunroof with a metal military 'escape hatch' to make it less risky clambering up on the roof when putting the roof tent on - will also not be burny like the glass in hot sunshine! Fitted a Mantec spare wheel carrier.... I had one on my old Tdi door but when we changed to the Td5 door we just went with the standard wheel mount and sold the Mantec on.... Had forgotten how good they are and the bonus is the door stays open a lot better now, although will probably add some sort of cheap and simple additional stay mechanism at some point... All ready for the roof tent to go back on now ![]() ![]() Yorkshire Off Road Club - http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net |

I like the idea of the escape hatch. Where did you get it from please?

Completely rebuilt a front hub for the first time! Front wheel bearings collapsed and decided to do the rebuild myself. It was easier than I thought it would be and certainly saved quite a few quid in labour charges!

They are good - had one on another motor at few years ago but changed to a solid roof and sold it on.... Much too cheaply as it turned out! They fit just like a normal sunroof but as well as flip-up opening as a vent you can also take out the full panel and.... Escape! They are a Genuine LR part but quite difficult to source - doesn't seem to be any new stock around and if you find one from an online dealer in the UK they seem to be suggesting a price of around £750!! However, they is a ebay seller chap in Cyprus that seems to have a few somehow, at a more realistic price...£195 plus postage of about £50 http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_trksid=p...;_from=R40 Will post pics of mine fitted tomorrow. I stopped and helped a little old lady yesterday evening, she'd driven through a pothole with her Vauxhall Aquila thingy and had stopped on a bend in one of the not so wide roads near where I live and as I drove up to her she was out of the car and you could see she was starting to panic a bit. It doesn't cost you anything to stop and help especially if you're able. Typical though, I had chucked tools and junk in the back of mine all on top of my jack and as it turned out my cheap compressor as her spare was half flat.
Still after 10 minutes she was on her way again and the people she was going to had been told that she was on her way but would be a little late. |

Pam, I will be super interested in seeing it too. I have be tempted to fit a sunroof for a while and don't like the glass one- why did LR fit a curved piece of glass to a flat roof? I will take a trip up there soon to have a look- is the panel flat? Just as a note to other people thinking about getting one from that supplier- he is about 30mins up the road from me and I would be willing to collect and post back to the UK- will only cost about £10 rather than paying the full international rate. *EDIT* JWL....... Huge Karma points for you- good to hear people helping ![]() Glyn ![]() ![]() |

Thanks Pam & Glyn
![]() I like the idea of having one but seeing as I dont have a sunroof im not sure I like the idea of cutting a hole in my roof. I would also have to brace the inside of the roof and cut & finish the headlining around the hatch. ![]() Kind offer Glyn, im thinking about it ![]() |

@ Glynn, I try to live my life and when I see somebody struggling then I'll help, no strings attatched. I'd hope that in general if I'm struggling there would be somebody that could help me. Funny thing is that this "Land Rover Community" that we're all part of seems to join this part of society together.
