Was the fuel tank breather hose a bit of a pain of a job? Diesels Lives Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️

It was a pain because I dropped the tank while refitting (had it out completely to access rear cross member) and it ripped out the fuel gauge sender wires! A bit of swearing and a bit of soldering fixed it though. Rolling Eyes

If you lower the tank by undoing the front fuel tank guard mounting bolts and loosening the nuts attaching it to the rear cross member then you should be able to reach through the NS wheel arch to the breather/tank connection (it is just a push fit with a metal ring to keep it in place). The rest of the breather hose is secured by open clips that you can easily pull it out of and press back into (once you feel where they are).

I probably should have replaced the filter on the end of the breather but was pressed for time so just got a new section of rubber hose and refitted the same rigid hoop and filter that you see in the NS wheel arch - i can easily get to them another day and they weren't blocked.

I think at some point on the 2.2 engines LR moved the breather so that it joins the filler vent hose?? If so, then that would need the tank dropping to get to.

Roger - Yes, it sounds like quite a nuisance of a job.
I’ve read a lot that LR’s offering for these hoses aren’t that good, pricey and don’t last and a correct spec hose would be a better longer term solution. This latter solution is what I think I’ll go for. Diesels Lives Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️

Oh yes. The lengths one has to go to in order to hear about Bob Flowerdew and his compost heap.

(Love the programme)

Yeah GQT is excellent. Bob is amazing, James Wong too. Although Bunny Guinness occasionally drives me up the wall with her inappropriate answers.

Is that a Clarke mast? I was given pretty much a full 27ft Larkspur mast kit a few months ago, complete with canvas bag. 1999 Defender TD5 110

Switzerland 2009 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 SVX Station Wagon Santorini Black
At almost 11 years young, had my 3rd Swiss MOT today. Passed with flying colors, so good for officially 2 years again, which in reality may become 2.5 or even 3 years before the next MOT invitation will drop in the letter box. They have a pretty large backlog here in Geneva and Vaud, and no need to do anything before they invite you again.
Interesting to see that the effective vehicle weight with a full tank but no driver was 2.367 kg. Quite a bit more than the official curb weight without driver of give or take 2.050 kg. A good 300 kg more for the bolt-ons like wheel carrier, A-frame, tool box, and Dinitrol to name the biggest items.
This was my first MOT in Canton Vaud, really top of the line testing equipment they have here, including a set of rollers to test the brakes of full time 4X4 vehicles like the Defender. In Geneva they did not have that, they only did a active brake test on a private road there as their rollers were only suitable for part time 4X4's.
Happy days. Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Reminds me of a Billy Connolly sketch from many years ago after he came across a cookbook written by Lady Something-or-Other. He picked out two recipes, the first requiring ‘a whole lobster’ to prepare the sauce, the second a recipe for when wondering what to do with any ‘left over haunches of venison’.... Rolling with laughter Monsieur Le Grenadier

I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list.....
