I finally got around to sort out my fuel cap, it had been a leak free zone but a month ago i started to get diesel on the side panel below the cap It had been coming out by the lock where you put the key in, so i took it completely to bits making sure that all was ok with each item, then i found the culprit one of the screws holding the main unit to the plastic cap was out but there is a metal type of spring holding it there, so i put an "O" ring around the top of the lock barrel so no diesel can come out of there again and then put some thread lock in both of the screw holes and then put the rest of it back together and it fits like a glove and of course you have to go for a test drive to make sure all is ok  Clayton. 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up. Keeper.
