Rust Prevention in Central Scotland
Hi Guy's, Now the weathers improved a bit I'd like to get the underside of the defender protected... Does anyone have any experience or recommendations?... I would have a go myself, but with my current work schedule I'm only getting home for a day or two at a time...

Cheers Tim It doesn't matter how bad it is, It can always get worse...

When I had my Disco2 done, I took it to a vehicle restorer's (Chic Doig in Fife), but I wasn't that pleased with the work - I wouldn't recommend them for Land Rover work...

I couldn't find anyone to do my Defender, so I did it myself...in fact I'm still doing it myself! I followed Zag's guide, but I'm still finding new bits to dinitrol/ACF as I go...

You could try these guys: http://gemm4x4.co.uk/index.htm or these guys http://www.strathearnengineering.com/ but I haven't had any personal contact with either so can't recommend them.

Have you seen DRW's thread ( http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic20003.html ) - maybe Tayside Land Rovers are worth a call as well? http://www.taysidelandrovers.com/Home.aspx

For general servicing I use - and would recommend - Whites ( http://www.whitesautoservices.com/ ) but I did once ask, and they weren't interested in doing waxoyl/dinitrol work... Good for out-of-warranty work though (best I have found in Scotland)...

Zag's guide is http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic10467.html Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

You could also ask your Main Dealer whe they use / recommend.

Some main dealers have relationships with 3rd parties who they use for such requests... Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

There used to be someone in Kirkcaldy, Fife who was a rustproofer but not sure which brand, he got a good name.

A bit off thread, but you'll not do better than Mike Aitken 4x4 in Ladybank, Fife for servicing and repairs! Very reasonable, helpful, the only real problem is that he's so flipping busy! 01337 831191 He's doing quite a good trade in replacement D2 chassis too.

If you're near Stirling then definitely worth giving George or Bobby a call at GEMM 4x4 (mentioned already above), they're only down the road in Larbert.

Always had great service from them and if they're not doing rust proofing at the moment they'll certainly know who to recommend locally.
