Cor4 air intake
Just fitted a Cor4 air intake cover in place of my LR RAI. Decided to try this out after seeing the BAS dyno results the RAIs have on performance , and noticing a distinct lack of go up hill .
Not had a chance to try it out on my butt dyno but heres some pics .
Fitting was very easy once I worked out how to drive the rivnut tool.
I've plugged the windscreen frame bolt holes with the RAI bolts/nut covers until I find a less visible solution, thankfully all my bolts weren't corroded in when I came to remove the RAI, though a another winter may have swung that the other way.

Ps supplied very promptly by LRS offroad

A quick spin on the backside rolling road says its not any slower up hills but hard to say its faster. What was noticeable was its a lot smoother drive under 2k revs and quieter? I used to notice the egr chattering a lot on part throttle urban driving, and its seems to be either less egr activity or less noise directed in to cab . 2023 110 P400e

An air intake cover can make any measurable difference on a defender. I don't believe that for a second.

I agree Thud but I think you'll find it replaced a raised air intake in which case I'm sure there would be a noticeable difference

If a Mantek/JLR snorkle is removed to fit the wing vent it WILL make a difference for sure to power and its delivery. I have tested it on the dyno on several cars with shocking results. I dont know if a COR4 one is any better than the factory plastic wing vent but I for sure know removing the snorkle is.

I understand that removing the restrictive snorkel will show flow gains. I'm saying that a flash AI cover is no better than a boggo one.

Since Pete remapped mine with a rai , it has lots of go uphill 47bhp more go Thumbs Up
And if Pete was kinder to his customers mine would have a huge inter cooler by now Big Cry
I like mine it makes me feel rugged Rolling with laughter and its the only thing I will notice when it falls off

I don't doubt that, though I didn't have a stock placcy one, I didn't like the prices of the KBX? ones and following reports of the stock one being held on by a whim I wanted something slightly more permanent Smile
And as kindly pointed out by Pete of BAS it was replacing a RAI, that doesn't do anything useful in the climate/conditions its being used in that I can see (as it doesn't seal the intake from water ingress and I'm not likely to drive a dust cloud anytime soon) - so probably more a fashion accessory than the Cor4 plate that replaced it. Hey Mr Macduff, you never know when coming round from Tarlair you will need a raised air intake, and the dust clouds off the parks at Myrus!

Surly as long as it looks good and gives some performance gain (even in your own head) its worth it........

What I was wondering is if you remove the intake pipe from where it goes into the air box would that be ok and you can keep your air intake on for bling Thumbs Up

I'm assuming he's referring to the graph above with regards to the lower power. If you remove the intake pipe from air box, then in theory you could keep the snorkel for looks (if you like the look of them!), but not have the reduced power that they cause. I personally don't think it would work, as the air intake is on the outside of the vehicle for a reason. An engine to TDi for!
