heated rear screen
Apologies if its a silly question but do you not get a heated rear screen on the basic trim level defender?

Did you buy it new Austin? Chance that it was a 90 truck cab in a previous life? Does it have lashing hooks down the shoulder lines of the tub? (Usually a good giveaway). 2005 Td5 | 90 Station Wagon | Tonga Green

No worries, it was just a thought. Sure it is a factory hard top. A truck cab (pick up) doesn't have a heated rear screen, so that switch is blanked off the dash. Truck cabs also have lashing hooks down the sides of the rear tub to attach a tonneau cover to. Often when they're converted to hard tops or station wagons people don't take the hooks off. It's a good way of telling that a vehicle has been converted rather than being a factory SW / HT. 2005 Td5 | 90 Station Wagon | Tonga Green

It has the benches each side, puzzled as to why there is no switch. There appears to be a wire feeding what would be the heated screen.

Have a look behind the blanking plate for the switch, it might have the wiring already installed for a switch.

You'll probably just need to pop a switch in. Even my 110 DC had all the wiring including relay and fuse for the HRW!

Final assembly of your Defender's dash was probably done by some lazy tw@ who'd run out of HRW switches and stuck a blank in instead. Rolling Eyes

The blanks are easy enough to ping out and, as mentioned, it's probable the necessary connector will be waiting.

Ask on here, someone will have a HRW switch kicking about.
