Dynamat
I did some soundproofing to the Defender over the weekend using Dynamat. So far I have done the rear tub floor, but not under the rear seats yet, and the roof.

Took it for a 120 mile round trip today and wow! What a difference it has made. It is like a totally different vehicle now. So much quieter and has a more 'solid' feel to the whole thing.

This weekend I will get on and do some more to the seat box and other areas.

Big smile on my face today!

oooh ok. Might need to add them to my list as well. Might need to get some more! I bought 80sqft for £280 on ebay. I have used a bit over half of it so far.

Thanks SGH. Looks like a top job you have done there.

Got back ache at the weekend trying to roll all the Dynamat on the roof as it needed quite a bit of heating and rolling considering it was so cold.

I was amazed at the difference today. I have to admit when I first saw the Dynamat I thought that a bit of rubber and some aluminium could make much difference but I was really impressed today.

Wish I had thought about doing this when I was rebuilding it and then I would have done the bulkhead and everything as it was built up to make it so much easier.

I've just started on the Utility Wagon, using SilentCoat instead of Dynamat. I understand it goes on much easier. Certainly had no trouble cutting, bending and sticking it, and temperature was minus 2. Just put the pack of Silentcoat on top of the Rayburn for half an hour, and ran the engine to warm up the interior.

Just done the floor, arches and side panels in the back so far, but it's made a big difference. Thanks for the advice about the doors. Will start saving for another pack or three! 2012 Defender Utility Wagon

Just looked up Silentcoat and it looks like an exact copy of Dynamat but only £80 for 40sqft as opposed to £140 for Dynamat that I paid.

Looks like I will get that if I use up all my Dynamat and still need more!

Yep, I think it's the same basic idea; a butyl-based heavy mass layer with an aluminium facing and adhesive backing. I believe you can also use Butyl-based roof flashing tape, but when I looked this up at Screwfix it worked out more expensive than the Silentcoat! Rolling Eyes 2012 Defender Utility Wagon

Not on its own but if you stick closed cell foam on top it should.

A massive difference since doing mine, but decided at the weekend to once and for all strip the roof lining off my 110 to Dynamat it as there was still a rattling noise.

Thank god I did, all the bolts/nuts holding the roof to the sides were loose Shocked .

I know it's a Landrover, but not one bolt was tight and it's only 2 1/2 yrs old.

Got me worried now whether a strip down should be planned Crying or Very sad
