If possible go to the dealer with a second person in their Puma you have driven that does not have these faults. Get him to drive both. Do not mean to be smart or negative but if you have never had a Defender before you might be trying to compare it to a car you have owned. Anyway try a second vehicle. There is bound to be someone on this forum near you. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

I am sure you have read this thread about the 2nd/3rd gear change problem but just in case !!!

There are a few of us who have problems with changes into 2nd and 3rd. My vehicle is only 3 months old and has now got it's second upgraded clutch and the problem is still there albeit slightly better with the new clutch.

Thanks for the advice guys,
The reason I appear to be at the end of my tether is because I've had two clutches, a new gearbox, a new transfer box, a new front prop and two new rear halfshafts, and still it's pants compared to my previous TD5. But as far as LR are concerned it's "characteristoc of the marque sir!". Not very satisfactory for 25K's worth!
