Pioneer DEH-4500BT
Just nipped down to my local car audio shop up here in Newcastle, and had a chat to one of the guys there. Following that, and what I need/want, this seems to be a good option

Pioneer DEH-4500BT

It is being sold for 109

Has anyone had any experience with this or think I should keep looking?

All I want is a head unit that can do everything the LR one can do but with iPhone compatibility and a microphone somewhere.

From your link:
"Pristine sound delivered at 4 x 50W of pure, proven MOSFET power."

You won't be disappointed with that. My HU has the same power rating and MOSFET in-built amp. Thumbs Up

Sadly not from me but perhaps another member on here may have? But for the price and features you can't go wrong IMO.

It can do that no problem. I would check that it has an external mic though and not in-built. Other than that go for it. Thumbs Up Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

They've just added a new DAB unit DEV-6500DAB that you may be interested in. Has iPhone support and Parrot BT too. Seems to be available for ~120, but you'd need to factor cost of DAB aerial too.

Cheers

DAB aerial... where can I get one from? And is it worth it over the original radio type I have now?

Thanks for the advice guys so far!

DAB Aerials are available by either the manufacturer though outlet stores on-line or high-street. There are also some universal one's but personally I'd stick to one recommended for use with the HU make and model. DAB is good for people that like radio / use the radio a lot of which I don't but if you do that would be the advantage of having a DAB HU.
Thumbs Up

I would recommend another manufacturer for DAB Head Unit's but it's best not to. I may get accused of something. Whistle

Feel free to drop me a PM if you would like any other help or info. Thumbs Up Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

All national radio stations will switch over to digital and analogue will just be used for local radio. No date set yet, but old be as early 2015 IIRC

So if you plan to keep radio for a while it pays to buy DAB now.

Cheers

So I embarked on my first ever electrical mod (I know it wasn't that complicated but I was proud of myself!!) and the one thing I have noticed was the nipple like bit at the back which pairs up with the socket and I would suppose keeps the head unit stable on rough roads.

I can't see anywhere to fit it on the new HU... does anyone have any ideas on how to fit it to this HU or any other ones?

I have absolutely no idea what I would search for on this (I presume searching 'nipple' would come up with some rather different results...) so forgive me if it's been covered!

You mean the rubber mounting bung to take the weight of the HU to the rear to avoid stress on the fascia from movement. What bung are you trying to use the one off the OE LR radio or one that came with the new HU? Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

Pretty sure the new one didn't come with a rubber bung. Was trying to use the OEM one... Is there a way around this? I also can't find a place to screw one in in the same place...

I had the same issue with mine too although there was a location on mine to mount the screw on the LR radio was larger so I removed it from the rubber mount and made it fit using a smaller screw and nut. If the HU is pretty lightweight and you already have a DIN mounting sleeve that should be enough support as is. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

A single DIN mounting sleeve is one of these:

That is mine and it locks the HU in securely for security and to keep the in place. You'd need two removal keys too for when removing your HU out of it as it locks it into place. They don't cost much and if you don't currently have one you really should. Thumbs Up Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

Oh right, yeh it's got one of those - was a very tight fit!!

So you're saying that with that it should be fine without the rubber plug at the back?
