Dif-lock reengaging
ARGGGHHH

Been a good boy and changed the rear pads on the 110 today.

Chocked the front, engaged low range with diff lock and supported the rear with axle stands

"Proper Job"

When I put it all back together, unchocked, Hi box, no Diff Lock, then off for a test drive.

500yds up the road the diff lock light came on

After driving rond and round on a loose surface, trying all transfer options, occasionally the light briefly goes out then returns.

I have jacked a wheel, tried to spin it, sure enough locked. tried changing the difflock etc in/out once got the wheel to spin freely but after 500yds the dif re-engaged. Now it wont dissengage.

About a month ago the dealer replaced the transfer box input oil seal. do you think they could have Censored the shift mechanism ?

Have you tried turning the steering to full lock and reversing a short distance? That always pops the lock out if the mechanism is in fact disengaged. If that doesn't work then it seems that there is a problem with the actuating mechanism. 2005 Td5 | 90 Station Wagon | Tonga Green

Thanks Green Machine.

I tried driving around in circles on a loose surface both forwards and reverse, even trid speeding over speed bumps and kerbs to see if it would jolt.

As I said though, I finally jacked a front wheel and managed to get it to temporarily dissenage, then when I drove it down the road it re locked!

Jacked it again and the wheel would only rock back and forth against the transmission play.

This time it would not dissengage using the lever. He who dies with the most toys wins Smile

have you tried operating the lever from under the vehicle with a pry bar? ie going straight onto the actuator?

as an aside, with the engine running, hand brake on (hard) if you select reverse and lift the clutch slowly (no footbrake) this will disengage difflock assuming it all works as it should. you will not have to lift the clutch fully.

any difflock preload (? not the right word but it currently escapes me) is normally induced by fwd momentum. if you lock one part of the transmission (ie rear prop) and select rev you in effect spin the front prop against the rear releasing the torque that was holding the diff lock in. Cheers

I think I will let the pros look into that
Got the AA to take it back to the dealer, when I asked the driver if he knew the way he said yes as he had just dropped a Range Rover off there Rolling with laughter
