Salisbury Plain warning ..
Copied from Tread lightly [and it is genuine, A close friend is the Wiltshire rep contacted]

Please think before going out in wet weather. I've had a call from the MOD Police on Salisbury Plain today to say that they have counted in excess of 80 vehicles within a couple of hours. They went on to say the lanes are trashed and locals have been complaining.

This is irresponsible. If you must go out, remember the ground is totally sodden, so please pick sustainable routes.

Worth thinking about until the current climate improves greatly .. Sad Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant.

Was a lot of vehicles around there today, and quite messy. I just stuck to the cat1 graded tracks. Felt sorry for the motorbike event in the CCDA. bet that was messy.

Although I'd like to know what locals actually live on the areas.... apart from badgers and deer.

Surrounding villages are mainly farming community... so 'should' be used to tractors etc driving around. Whistle

I wouldn't bargain on it... They'll want it solely for their own sole use and god help anyone spotted near there. If they are they will be treated with suspicion. Whistle

When they say "80 vehicles" that's only by coincidence it wasn't an 80 vehicle planned group was it.... Purely down to the time of year and various groups having similar ideas at the same time.

Judging from that farcebook rubbish, it's people looking at one or two photo's (ot too many Censored in the "mud hole" as it seems to be called) then making long distance accusations "mud plugging muppets" etc.... i suspect the majority of the people making comments have never been out on the areas let alone seen the cat1 tracks that riddle the whole 98000 acres.

And of course, glass houses and throwing stones etc Whistle Rolling with laughter

Sorry I couldn't get to you Steve. I got to Larkhill and a chap from work rang me, he was having a spot of bother in Devizes, so I popped up to give him a hand, which took a little longer and needed a return visit. By the time I'd come back again, I had driven through so many puddles and waterlogged roads the bottom of the 110 was pretty clean, so I went home and finished it off properly with the jetwash... it's rarely this clean Laughing Laughing can do some much needed TLC that it needs now (front dampers, O/S radius arm bushes) without getting covered in poo.

Up until the mid- late nineties The Ridgeway which in total is 87 miles long used to be accessible to 'all and sundry' unfortunately it was a similar 'Public outcry' (I too am sure from many people who had not been there) to limit access to a mere two miles all year round and 16 miles from May to Serptember. As with all walks of life there will be 'scoffers and scorners' who have nothing better to do than put a halt to other people's enjoyment. I sincerely hope that their attempt at whatever agenda they may have will not gather pace. In this World of Political Correctness, Tree Huggers and so-called Do-Gooders I hope they find another more just cause to concentrate their efforts on!

Rant Off!!!! (Not so much of a rant but a spleen-venting session albeit a small one). Smile If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!!

+2 K9F Thumbs Up

Amazing thing is that looking at a few FB pages of pictures it looks like the majority of the vehicles that appear to have started the issue are not 90's, 110's or Defenders. Most I can see are Disco's and non LR.

Does anybody know the area where the MOD pictures came from ?

I would take a wild guess that it was near Imber and if it was then I can see why there may have been complaints. A lot of people visit Imber church at this time of year and some do get annoyed at large convoys going past.

Bob

The pity is Bob to the untrained eye a 4x4 type vehicle of any make or model is simply often classed as a Land Rover vehicle even if it's not. Rolling Eyes So in theory I believe we get a generalised blame for the few twits that are out there regardless of vehicle make model or age..

Most of the complainants are probably people who sit infront of farcebook and have never been for a country walk.

Hmmm... it would seem that these "MoD pictures" have now dissapeared from farcebook (logged in on the Mrs' account)

So I wonder if they were actually genuine or not? surely the police would need a particular reason to take pictures of law abiding citizens driving on a legal RoW?

and surely the MoDPol wouldn't just email over pics of vehicles/people to someone from a RoW organisation?

Of the time I was out yesterday, I saw one land warden. it was approaching a group of about 20 vehicles, all driving slowly on a muddy RoW... the warden just watched for a bit then carried on.

I think it's all been blown out of proportion by the tree hugging scare mongers. in Imber when I popped in, it was like picadilly circus... all CARS with folk wandering about. Including my 110, there were three 4x4 vehicles (two other 90's)... all the rest were cars, and it was heaving (pics to follow when I upload them).... funny how no-one starts a farcebook petition page to moan about all this traffic isn't it?
