It won't click, it's like a bellpush.
It just switches a timer on. (8 mins) |

The fornt and rear screens work quite differently.
The rear has a latching switch, it stays on until you turn it off. The front has a momentary switch, which activates a timer relay under the seat and turns the screen on for 10 minutes, after whcih it switches off again autonomously. To activate the front screen (as JST posted) the engine must be running (an "engine running" signal from the instument panel is one of the inputs to the timer relay). |

thanks, apart from the ice melting on the front screen is there any other way to see if it is working? should the light come on either on the switch or on the dash? 07 Defender 90 TDCI

Yes, an orange little light should come on in the switch for the time that the timer keeps it working, or until you push it once again to turn it off. You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

It's usually (well, on Td5's anyway) fed from the oil pressure light switch... this gives the "engine running" signal to make the relay click.

The Puma uses an "engine running" signal output from the connector on the back of the instrument panel (Pin 14 on Connector C1040). |

if the switch light is weak, open up the switch and adjust the angle of the led indicator light, the switches are only about £7-8 each so alternatively replace the switch |

It doesn't seem weak in mine - just as bright as all the other switches. John http://www.hampshire4x4response.co.uk 2011 Tdci 110 CSW XS |
