The Welney Wash road is well-known for flooding, and the observant viewer of the subject video of this thread (or any of the several other videos of this road on YouTube) will notice that there are flood depth indicators at the start of the road, and white fingerposts along the entire length of side of the road.
I wonder what they can be there for? Let me think......
Oh yes, that will be so that you can see where the edge of the road is and safely drive along it when it's flooded!
I also seriously doubt whether a prosecution could be brought against the driver in this case, since unless a road closure order in in place (doubtful in the case of a flood), the signs can only be advisory, not mandatory. It is unlikely therefore that any offence has been committed. Also, if the Defender driver has committed an offence, then presumably so has the tractor driver.
I fully understand that the Police felt it advisable to try to discourage this sort of thing, but I do feel that their comment could have been better worded ("Don't do it unless you really know what you're doing").
Can we look forward to the Police being equally critical of all the eurobox drivers who will no doubt attempt to drive in the snow, get stuck, and need rescuing? I hope so.
And if so, who will be out there rescuing them? That'll be those irresponsible 4x4 drivers again.
