does make you wonder why the first OME bracket and/or strap is so short...

If the door can swing open to 90 degrees and the wind (or kid) catches it, it goes too far and the forward edge puts a crease in the pillar. Don't ask me how I know Sad

argh iv'e just installed them and now im going to panic everytime someone opens the door. These are the Entreq brackets right?

Do you have any pictures of the crease....if i get a load of camel's toes pics as a reply.........and the way i have worded it i dont mean the good kind Wink ===================================

I have the Entreq ones from Brendan at 4x4 overlander, a sponsor on here - excellent advice and service as always from them.

Seems there are several other options on the market of various qualities and prices, and some new suppliers coming along as well, so plenty of choice to suit your budget and tastes.

The odd thing that was already mentioned is 'why didn't land rover make em a bit longer'? Maybe they have "always been that way sir".

The point about the doors fouling the bodywork when fully opened is a valid concern, had a good look at mine when I fitted them and they seem to leave a 3-4mm gap even when 'fully' pushed open, so look like they will be ok. I have seen another where there are lateral adjustment holes, so they would need carefully fitting/adjustment and keep an eye on bolt tightness.

That maybe why LR decided on the standard length so there was plenty of 'tolerance' and would avoid tit fouling bodywork irrespective of subsequent 'adjustments' made by owners.

Good upgrade though whoever you you get them from.

It's only a slight crease and I don't think the paint will lift. It's a tribute to LR quality that it happened on one side and not the other, as the doors are set differently Laughing

Before you panic, go and see how yours fit. There are several versions of these brackets and the Entreq ones (knowing how intelligently those guys design) might not open quite as far as some others Thumbs Up Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...

My Entreq ones don't go 'fully' to 90 degrees on standard opening, although you can push them a bit further, but still clears the bodywork so I wouldn't worry, just check it to put your mind at rest.

Yeap I can second that...even pushing the door, the strap locks out before the door edge meets the pillar, about 3/4 mm clearance.

also mentioned before, I've lost a really annoying clucking noise from the original fitting, now the doors close butterey smooth...

Why does it loos e the clucking noise? Thought that was another little piece from Entreq they sold already earlier to loose the cluck?

Like I said, the door on one side has 3/4 mm clearance but only a couple of mm on the "bad'n". You can see the difference when they're closed too. Tried to adjust it but something's seriously off-kilter.
Wind took the door and whipped it open harder than just pushing and "ouch". Probably my door is just crap - now the pillar matches it Rolling Eyes

As dj says - it's worth a quick check. Our Defenders are a bit variable Thumbs Up Tell someone you love them today because life is short.

Those of you new to the 110 / 90 / Defender scene - checkout the number of old examples with creases in the A and sometimes B posts and corresponding folds in the leading edges of the corresponding doors. Even with standard check straps it only takes a gust of wind to cause the door to strike the posts. Steve.

I think it's something to do with they fact that the bolt has a turned smooth bearing section that the arm fits over ( after you have drilled out the stay arm to 10mm) the original doesn't have that and entreq do a bearing to retro fit to the original to cure that. The allroad ones appear to just be a bolt welded in so I guess the noise stays, don't know about the others. It's nice to get an added benefit to a simple door stay as well as the extra opening gap.

That maybe why they are a bit more money? Easily copied though I guess.

Thanks DJ.
I missed apparently in the entreq manual that the bearing thing comes with the new door stay as a pack (although my German in naturally better than my English).

Then the question to the cheaper door stay mod fraction, do you still have the typical noise closing your doors?

jumps to mind when looking at the padlock,...

put a piece of bicycle inner tube over the body of the lock or you'll erode through your paint quickly.
Shame they didn't make the brackets a bit bigger so the lock cant reach the bodywork.
