Help needed with Audio set up -
I'm looking for advice from some of the experts on here Very Happy

It that time of year again to get the Santa Sleigh ready for the Round Table collections. Last year I installed a complete new audio set up and Amp for the sleigh - comprising

Stereo head unit to play the CD's - BASIC CD player
Mutant MT4001r Amp to boost the power and sound to the
Vibe Q369 speakers - Waterproof -
Sony Waterproof front speakers
Amp And all electrics in a waterproof case - powered from Aux Battery in my Disco 3

It all worked well but running with a CD was a pain - and the thought this year was to just use an iPod - It's been suggested to do away with the head unit and link the ipod direct to the AMP ?????

I've mocked the set up tonight and connected it all up with the exception of the "blue wire" that came from the head unit to the RMT connector. See pic below from last year

So far there is no life in the AMP

Will the AMP power up without the RMT connection ? ( Set up as now as TEST )

If Yes - Then It appears there is another issue - I'm just taking a ground from the battery Neg - should that be ok to test ? On the Sleigh this is grounded to the chassis

If it needs the RMT - any idea what this input is - is it a Voltage input that can be sourced elsewhere - ?

Will the input from an Ipod straight to the AMP be a workable solution ??????

If not then we can seek to find another head unit to plug the ipod to that but if possible it would be good to bypass that - and I'd prefer not to have to invest in a new Stereo

Any suggestions welcome

The blue wire you talk of is the Remote turn on feed which is 12v. The Amp won't turn on at all without it as it is the trigger to turn it on and off (much like a relay works with spotlights) Normally aftermarket HU's have this "blue wire" as standard so when the radio is on / in use it turns the amp on providing power for the sub and so on.. and when not in use / off it will turn the amp off.

The only other thing I can think of to avoid using it IF you so wanted to (I wouldn't advise it unless you have a need to) is to have the RMT powered from the ignition (make sure it's fused say 5A to protect it and it can be this low because there is no load on it) You may also wish to have a switch too as the amp will permanently be on with the ignition on otherwise.

Does this help at all?

Oh and thanks Chris (Killer90) just noticed your post as I type. Laughing Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

As an added note I think the easiest way around for you would be to get a cheap second hand fully working HU from say E-bay and use that. All it will need to use an iPod is an Aux in jack and that's all. This way you'll have the Blue RMT cable as well all ready to go. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

Run a wire from the 12v live next to the RMT via a switch to the RMT connection. As said all it is is the switch for the amp. No need to fuse as the main live connection should already be fused.

If you want it really easy then don't use a switch just a wire with a connector at easch end and disconnect it as in the first picture when you have finished. 2005 110 TD5 XS running Alive Stage 1 and a bit and other toys

Also take care to disconnect the battery when moving live cables otherwise it's very easy to short it by accident just touching ground -

Thanks for the responses guys -

I tried quickly this morning before reading for work and nothing

Now I was using 2 12v 7.5ah slab batteries -

These were fully charged and both @12.5v on the multimeter. I used the second battery to provide the 12v ( Blue ) feed.

I've a lot of work to do tonight ( WORK as employer ) before I can try again -

Will keep you posted -

Thanks
