2" Lift Kit
Gents,

Got a 2" lift kit from a friend of mine who went to 3".

Set comprises:

Bilstein shocks - custom shocks, variably valved and custom damped. Harder on tar than standard, but softer than standard off road. They are also longer than standard, to match the springs.

Rear: Progressive OME 762 (medium duty)

Front: Progressive OME 761 (medium duty) + spacers (these are for a Disco1, only give 25mm lift)

Initial feedback after driving from the workshop back home and to work this working: much better road holding. While the setup is slightly harder than LR setup, it's not bone-jarring. And with the Bilsteins, you don't keep bounding after going over speed bumps - there are many on my daily commute.

Will have to try them offroad soon!

Ok, so this is not much of an offroad trip, but nonetheless:

We drove a few kms of gravel road last weekend, parts of it badly corrugated. SWAMBO even commented how nicely and smoothly this setup is.

The bilsteins provide a much better, smoother ride on gravel corrugations than OEM shocks. Since this is mainly the type of road we drive when overlanding, I am pleased with the results. Thumbs Up

So far (800km) no issues with the front propshaft, but if it does happen, I will fit one of those fancy ones from Bailey Morris Smile --

thank Steve. Do you have a link to their shop or know whether they ship to South Africa?

Is it this one: http://www.lrsshop.co.uk/content/cor4-prop...dan-630mm?

Eish, 750 pounds vs 350 for the BM one... Shocked --

I asked the BM support about which one would fit my needs and this was their response:

Quote:
Thank you for your enquiry, My feeling is that you will only require a wide angle shaft and not a double cardan as you only have a 2" lift. Once you raise the car it changes the angle on the original props and the yokes bind together as the angle is to great.

Price for the 30 degree shaft will be 173.00 GBP per shaft
Shipping cost's via DHL will be 156.00 for one shaft or 215.20 if you require both front and rear shafts.

I wouldnt go for a wider angle prop (IMO). Im sure SA is full of toyota hilux 4x4 trucks so with a small flange mod you get the best CV prop. Puma 110" SW

Update:

After the clutch was replaced in June, the vibrations from the prop went away. Now that things are loosening up again, the vibrations are back.

I think new props will be required. I till try to remove the front prop this weekend and drive around to see if it is the problem.

Any advice on how to remove the prop? --

Mark the prop flange(s) and the diff flange so that when you put it back together they go back the same do this on both ends. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧
