Webasto thermo top C telestart

Well its webasto season!

having now sorted in my mind how to wire the Telestart into the airtop i turned to looking at the installation of it to the thermo Top C.

all seems very straight fwd using the Y adaptor.

My question though is in the instr on one page it states to just connect up the telestart in series with the original oval timer, ie remove plug from oval timer, fit into female on extension loom then fit male on extension loom into the oval timer.

then on the next page it states to do the above and to use the violet wire and connect it up to the spare pin socket in the webasto main loom then plug that into the telestart loom.

which one is right?

what does the violet wire do? Cheers

OK,

Violet = ventilation

When pressing a certain button combination on the remote you can switch from heating(winter) to ventilation (summer).

So besides plugging in you also have to enable (if you want this) the ventilation mode from the remote and therefore also plug into the violet wire.

(the first part of your explanation= connecting W-bus and power, the second = connecting to the "ventilation only" wire.

The difference with starting up the heater in normal mode in summer is it will also ventilate and cycle without heating but the heater will go through its start-up and shut-down sequences.
If you enable ventilation mode the heating parts of the unit are not fired up and left alone, you just control the ventilators.

ps: i guess the whole violet wire is only a simple make earth connection for the startup signals to the heater parts.

thank you, well i dont want the ventilation option so i will just plug it all straight in without extending the violet in to the loom. thank you.

wrt to the airtop post and wiring you can see where this is going now!

intent is

Airtop on Rheostat
Thermo Top on Oval timer

both independant controlled resp. by above.

BUT remote both of them to come on simultaneously. Cheers

What you are proposing is absolutely no problem

wire your pin3 of the T70 (the on/off 12v signal) to pin 7 on the airtop and to the right pin (which i do not remember) on the thermo top.

You will need to put a diode in both wires or your timer/rheostat will also switch on the other device if you switch on not using the remote.

I do not have the diagrams here at hand of the thermo top layout, but i am sure Dargel has them linked in one of his webasto threads.
