GL5 oils have a higher proportion of EP and anti-scuffing agents and are better suited to the higher point contact loads encountered in differentials and final drive units - so no, do not use GL4 oil in the transfer box.
In some cases you may be able to use a synthetic GL5 oil instead of GL4 but unless specifically recommended by Landrover or an oil manufacturer, I for one would certainly not use it in the Defender gearboxes. |

In fact you can use GL-4 in the Tbox (not gl-3 though) as specs states it. Puma 110" SW
