Knives.....Advice please.
I now think I'm mature enough to own a general purpose knife, I'm thinking of a fixed blade thing, nothing mega money (Ken, that means below 150).
I've looked at Heinnies and I'm left bewildered.
I've gone through the thread on ExPo and again, left bewildered.
I decided on a Gerber LMF2, but just read that they are pants, so I'm hoping someone will point me in the right direction please?

No doubt the question will come up of what you intend to use it for. So what will you use it for? From this people can advise you better. Thumbs Up Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

I have had my LMF 2 for about 3 years now- cracking knife...... but not good on intricate things (but I have a leatherman tool for that)- but you will never have 1 knife for all.

This is a set I would love to have..... everything from a hatchet through machete, fixed blade to the small folding blade for fiddly work.

I don't have one myself but general view is you'll not go wrong with a Fallkniven F1

Oh, and get yourself over to BritishBlades (if you're not already) and have a look on the classifieds

I would say you want a medium (about 8"-10" fixed blade) fine blade 'survival' type knife.

I currently use my LMF2 for that role and the serated part of the blade is a PITA for some of the jobs- I did have a Smith & Weson one which was AWESOME but couldn't replace it for a decent price Sad .

Something like this would work nice (and I am sure a few more makes and models will be highlighted):

Just a shame it is Bear Grylls branded Rolling Eyes

Just to throw this in there too. I LOVE this tool- not soo much knife but can be used for a million uses from machete to axe and even for smaller tasks like feathering:

Just throw it in the back of the Defender and it is handy even for those overhanging branches that you know will scrape down the side of your truck!!

I'm just going to sit and watch this discussion as I'm not allowed sharp toys at the moment after a little incident with a friends new axe, the log broke out and I ended up.embedding it in my shin whilst on a campsite near Bala earlier this summer. After umpteen years in farming all that I ever used was a good quality lambsfoot, my.last one lasted me 9 years but it had a blade sharpened so much that it was a quarter of the size. I've used those knives for everything imaginable, shavings, gutting, foot trimming, screwdriver, gasket scraper, nail trimmer, trimming shrubs/plants, you name it, it did it. The point I'm trying to make is that yes, they look the business but are they actually worth the money?

knifes....
Hello I use Helle knives for what I need ie, skinning gutting and general use, best and sharpest knifes at the price, I also hunt in Norway and this is the knife the Norwegians use and prefer.

Glyn, you can only get the Zombie Gerber collection from the states Crying or Very sad

@JWL Shocked sounds like that would of smarted a bit.

Scoty, bit pricey, but nice.
Dave & Keith, I'll check them out.

I do like the Gerber stuff, but the Bear signature is alittle tacky.

They come out of Russia and are an excellent blade. Not sure if you can import them into the UK.

I have the Ray Mears one, might consider passing it on if you can stretch your budget a little.
