Changing the oil at 500 miles is old school stuff and there's nowt wrong with that
![]() ![]() Father had an engine reconditioning business and he always suggested / advised / did this. Any argument against must surely be financial - most crap / worn off material / oil contamination etc will be in the filters / oil by this time so why not get rid of it?? I just wouldn't pay LR prices to have it done and would do it myself for peace of mind. Good luck with whatever you decide ![]() |

Good decision. Worst what can happen is that it just would be overkill. I don't do much mileage myself every year, but as most of my distances are pretty limited to 10-15km which seems not ideal for lifespan of engine oil, I change engine oil and filter every 6 months. That is probably every 3000km on average. Piece of mind and never really black oil.
![]() Add to that each time a good greasing of propshaft and whatever else is greasable. Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

If have axle stands put one under each axle raising one wheel from each axle from the ground. You can now lie underneath and rotate the props in order to get the grease gun onto the grease nipples. Sounds easily done but sometimes the grease nipples need turned slightly in order to get the nozzle attached. It's the one job I dislike as I usually get grease every where! Good luck. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel
