Fuel pressure regulator position
Sorry for this, but not very mechanicaly minded, looks like head has gone on the td5 and i have been offered a complete engine which we may fit, but i have been told to make sure it is the same to make swap easier. I was asked if the fuel regulator was on the back of the engine as the later engines had them internally, or vise versa. What am i looking for and where should it be? Any pictures / advise would be appreciated before i committ to a new engine.i

The engine prefix is the best way of telling but failing that the later fuel pressure regulators have a pipe that runs from the front of the cylinder head to the regulator. On the earlier ones the pipe is internal.

There are also obvious differences in the location and style of fuel cooler, the EGR systems and coolant pipe layouts.

You can fit a later engine in an earlier car. I did it.
