2010 Defender 90 Puma 2.4 XS CSW Alaska White
Stone Chips
Since getting a Defender I have noticed that when a stone is thrown up by the rear wheels it makes an almighty noise in the rear. Is there anything that can be done by putting some sound proofing under the carpet or in the rear wheel arches?

It actually doesn't bother me to much, but sends my 2 dogs wild and now they are really reluctant to get in to the Defender.

Thanks in advance for any help Very Happy

happens still with soundproofing, im guessing you could make an extended rubber mudflap of some sort even one hidden up a little higher as its the stones flicking from the tyres upwards Thumbs Up

Layers of stone chip paint helps. As I had a tin left over I used 'Waxoyl Stone Chip' gloop just for the inner arches Thumbs Up Slap plenty on letting the coats dry well in between applications.

my 110 has cowmatting (very thick, 15mm or so rubber mat) and plywood on top of that inside, and I still hear it!

Wouldn't Entreq wheel housing splash plates help here? I am thinking of getting them, worth your while you think to reduce the noise from stones being thrown up by the tires Question The Entreq splash plates set for a 110 is quite well priced I think, so what think Question

Here is what I refer to:

A liberal coat or two of Schutz stone chip paint on the exterior of the wheelarch panels helps. Steve.

Has your Defender been waxoyled? Mine used to do the same as the stones are impacting against a painted metal surface. As stated a couple of layers of waxoyl under the arches will deaden the impact.

Thumbs Up If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Thank you for anyone who has posted a reply, I have had the wheel arches waxoiled and I will update the post once I have run it for a few weeks. May also get some noise killer in the boot area.
