I think it has civilian type lights as I had to undo 3 screws to remove the ring that holds in the light. The headlamp was considerably thinner than the previous glass wipac units that were in. Scaling the real deal.

There are actually 2 different types of clear lenses, the wipacs and the one LR use for the SVX models.
the SVX headlamps have "crowns" inside the reflector unit. |

For those having problems with the new units being loose in the headlamp rings
Ply the 3 tabs a bit inward before mounting and tightening the small screws. There is a thickness difference and the original thicker lamps make the tabs ply outwards, as the rings are made from top spec stainless spring steel (sarcasm) the tabs do not have any "spring" action in them and instead of applying continues pressure, simply bend outwards. hence if you put in the new thinner units it looks as if the rings are too wide. 2 cents  |

Mine - LHD- have the internal reflector cup. And, yes they are better than OE headlights. Puma 110" SW

Looking at the picture of the Wipac Crystals they don't need cups as the filaments have a coating on. With a little help from Google Schmoogle...... Reflector cups prevent direct viewing of the filament, and so minimize glare, especially if the bulb used (either by design or by modification) doesn't have a coating on the tip of the bulb. Another point to note is that 'relector cups' are not a reflector at all. Its one and only job is to block waste light and prevent glare to other road users. As stated the Wipac Crystals do appear to have a coating on the filament/lamp/bulb whatever you want to call it, this negates the requirement for reflector cups.... If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Thanks for clearing that up K9F, I suppose I could have googled it but I am still mentally scarred from any search with the word "cup" in it, especially if those "2 girls" are involved with said cup

I'll pop some photos up of the lamps tomorrow .. but basically they are silver cups/crowns built into the headlamp units |

Thanks bpman, the bulbs fitted in my current set up have a matt paint on the tip thus not requiring a cup, as I understand it, I think
