I appreciate all the help you can give me regarding my problem. Does this problem need to be repaired?

Get some decent white panel sealer (or silver if available)

Good smear in there will seal it.

If I were you I'd carefully clear out as much of the old sealant then inject something like Sikaflex or Tiger seal, smooth off while 'wet' off and when dry carefully repaint / touch up to match the paintwork. Steve.

right then your lot,I repaired ours with dum dum(body corking) pushed into the crack and carefully wiping off the excess with contact cleaner fluid,it remains flexable so shouldn't crack again.

I also repaired the guttering where a piece of the 'filler' had dropped out, I was even able to touch it in with a touch up stick to colour code it. Thumbs Up 2.4 90 XS

Shocked didn't realise they crack as bad as that... you can see the strain the front roof panel is under when it's fitted in the factory...I would be looking to do what MOG has suggested as a more permanent solution Silkaflex is like concrete and Tiger seal will stay in place whilst the metal around it cracks it's so strong.

First, yes it needs to be fixed, or you get corrosion underneath.
Second, clean it, let it completely dry out, seal with sealant like Panthera (better then Sika or similar), smooth sealant with dishwasishing detergent on the finger tip, wait and clean, spray paint again - w/o the sealant it will crack again. Never forget: cars have owner, Landrover have field service personnel.
