Khyam Igloo. Mines just starting it's fifth year and still looks as good as new. Quick to put up and take down, why bother with a roof tent ?

I echo the praise of decathalon tents.

I've got a Quechua "Base Seconds 4.2" - it sleeps 4 comfortably in two bedroom pods and the central living area is 2.3m x 2.3m and 1.8m tall so can stand up and move around in it.

Theres a lipped groundsheet that makes the living area waterproof and the bedrooms have a hanging 'inner' to keep them warmer and reduce condensation.

The whole thing pack away into a 'disc' about 0.9m diameter.

It takes literally less than 5 minutes to pitch and packs away fully in about 10 minutes.

GO GET ONE!!!! Thumbs Up

I'm watching this thread with interest as I am in the process of designing a new tent that I hope to market in the near future.

What are the features that people most want in a 'base' tent (we are not talking hiking type tent) ?

Like the campmor tents - I think they are the ones I have seen at shows. will have to do more investigation on those.

Cheers

First proper modern tent we bought was a Khyam - same as the Highlander but it wasn't called that then.

We then wanted a bigger tent with a bigger porch that you could store more kit in and than didn't drip on you when you were trying to get in. So we went for a Vango one with bendy poles you have to slide in. Nice tent, big porch you can sit in but those poles are a right PITA, especially in the rain.

So we went back to Kyham - now got the Biker model, bit bigger than the Highlander, with a good size porch for storage, with a built in groundsheet.

So - designs for new tent - MUST be quick erect with the poles attached as per Khyam - none of this sliding the poles in caper!

I think I have seen the campmor tents on display with apb trading at shows.

Just got some more info thru the post from Brendan on the jet tent, which seems tick most of my boxes. Still can't find a picture of on packed down though to see how much room they need in the truck...

Cheers

Can't find a picture but THIS PAGE gives pack sizes of from 110 x 30 x 30cm to 148 x 34 x 34cm, depending on the model. Darren

I'm a big fan of the original Force 10.

So much so that I have two! They just last forever. Spares are everywhere. They make a great second-hand buy because they last so well. I've even used mine at 4000m in the Alps!

With my old Discovery at Ullapool:

In Wales:

A couple of years ago we were camped in a storm in North Wales, under Tryfan, only a handful of tents survived, and 3 of them were Force 10's!

Compared to a nylon tent, they're so breathable that they never get condensation.

The disign is simple, and as such they're really quick to erect. If it's raining you can also take the inner down first whilst the outer still keeps you dry Thumbs Up

Incidentally, Vango is an anagram of Govan where they were originally made in Scotland Thumbs Up Like our Land Rovers, an old design that still works well today. Bombproof & versatile Thumbs Up Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)
