Can anyone give me some good feedback on a quality tyre carrier ? It needs to be able to accomidate large wheels and tyres..

THanks for that guys..
The only other option would be to go with a roof rack that could accomadate a spare wheel.. Maybe start a thread and see if anyone has one like this.. |

had another make of vehicle in australia with spares on the roof. very heavy on and of would shy away from it again

I like the look of the Safari carrier and may get one for the project 90
However, a question for anybody technically minded. I am having the rotten tin foil rear crossmember replaced on the TD5 90 with a MIB replacement in a couple of weeks. I know the work will be done correctly so the question is if you have had a replacement rear crossmember fitted will it be strong enough to take a crossmember mounted wheel carrier ? yes it will be strong enough , have you consided a Kaymar carrier aswell?? another australian made item thats Bomb proof

If the replacement cross member is identical to original re holes etc and is made from same thickness material then yes it should be fine. The Kaymar is a good wheel carrier. Most of the gear made/designed in Australia is good gear. However the Kaymar does not open with the rear door as it has an over centre latch on the rear cross member. As far as I am aware the Kaymar is not readily available in the UK and when I last saw it for sale in the UK was a lot more then the current price of Nakatanenga and Safari Equip. Brendan |

As far as I know the rear crossmember MIB sell has all the same fixings etc as the original.
Also I think the standard version MIB sell is 3mm steel and the LR TD5 crossmember is only 2 or 2.5mm, one of the reasons it rots so quickly. Am I right in thinking the Nakatenanga & Safari Equip are very similar prices (both aound £450?)
I have Safari Equip bumperettes - anyone know if the Nak one will fit with the SE Bumperettes??? I like the bumperettes they've already proved their worth in a car park incident...  Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) |

Looked at Kaymar before I got the Sonic carrier fitted to my 110. Nice carrier but very expensive. Including delivery they are both on the lowside of £450
I doubt if the Safari Equipe bumperette will work with the Nakatanenga wheel carrier. Safari have done a modified rear bumperettes which works with their wheel carrier. Brendan |

yes the Kaymar is a good piece of kit Bob , i travel and see quiet a few dealers and can lay my hands on 4 of them and i know who has them will be eager to get did of dead stock so if anyone wants one let me know
