South Africa 2007 Defender 90 Puma 2.4 SW Zermatt Silver
Connect to trailer battery charging system
Greetings from Africa!
Please advise:
I want to connect my trailer (which has an on-board battery and charging system) to my Defender 90 so that the deep cycle battery can charge while i drive around (with my elbow out the window).
Some say there's a "spare Hella" connection near the rear speakers? Can i somehow connect this to the brad harrison plug on the trailer?
Or do i need to run new wires from the battery? If so, what specs and what route through the vehicle?
Or should i rather get this done by a pro?
Cheers www.ralton.co.za

Depends on which type of electrical plug you have connecting the trailer to the car, most connections have a permanent live 12V feed.

Is it a 2 or 3 pole with Earth plug? Is it already wired to the trailer battery and charger? If so just run the new 12v live direct from the battery to the plug connection on the Defender. In the UK the 12S socket supplies the fused live 12V supply to the trailer (caravans.) through a split charge relay, and this feed is taken directly from the vehicle battery.
