Sweden 2009 Defender 90 Puma 2.4 XS CSW Santorini Black
My workhorse
Thought I'd share some pictures of my workhorse.

I work in construction often seeing places hard to get to. The 90 is used mainly for towing heavy equipment but also sees it's share of motorways and city driving. It's also made life easier when seeing the odd horse box off work.

Somewhat of a love-hate relationship I either really like driving it or find myself getting really annoyed with the many small faults, strange sounds, things falling of etc. My father-in-law told me I'd like owning a Defender. "Only thing is", he said; "you've got to get to terms with the fact that there's always going to be something wrong with it" Well, he wasn't wrong!
So far I've seen a new clutch at 40 000 kms, new diff, gearlever assembly, rear door, headlight bezels, mirror arms etc, the list goes on. Were it any standard eurobox I'd gotten rid of it in a heartbeat. Not so the Defender, somehow it clings on to me.

Here's a list of things I've done with it:

When I got hold of it

New rims, some good elbow grease on the paint

Some chequer plate and side steps

Undercoating w dinitriol

A new Moto-Lita Steering wheel and some seat risers improved my workplace a whole lot

Since there is a mandatory winter tyre law in Sweden I've got studded Nokian Hakkas on the DualFinish Rims, the rest of the season the 90 rolls on Terrafirma Anthracite rims and Contis. Really annoyed with the quality on the Terrafirma Rims. Really not what you expect when you fork out that much dough. Winter comes with cold weather. Last year we had below - 30 on some occasions. I've had a Webasto Thermotop P installed and it really works wonders, especially early mornings. The aux heater is really something I couldn't live without!

The rims don't match the chequer plating in my opinion...

Xmitter 40" LED. Really happy with this. Sweden is covered with a grey-black gloom from October til April, proper lighting is essential 'round these parts.

LightForce 170 with 70 watt HID:s, make the ECU go bonkers when below zero. Haven't used them at all since I had the xmitter installed.

Were having a bit of winter at the moment, but not in any way as bad as the last two years

On the to-do list:

Still under warranty I'll stay cool, but come this summer I'd be getting myself a proper tune from one of this sites sponsors.
Thinking of painting the chequerplate black.
Some JW Speaker 8700 LED headlight replacements would do nicely
Sorting the ride out a bit better, anti roll bars and new shocks.
Some kind of handsfree thingy, a new head unit or an accessory
Sorting the bloody awful window washer jets! They work with the strength of a 95 year old mans prostate!
Rattling side windows drives me mad, thinking about putting whole glass in.

Cheers

Oh why did you have to post these photos today! I've been sorting through Scandinavian photos this evening and already had a longing to return to Sweden. I've always wanted to see if I would love it as much in winter as I do in summer. I know the cold would not bother me but am not sure if I could cope with the lack of light. I have a few favourite places in Sweden which I will have to go to in the winter - Mora and around the lake and Hoga Kuste.
Maybe I will just have to give Brendan the wrong directions when we go to Germany. Rolling with laughter

How can I explain this properly; on every rim there is a central hole for the hub. You use this hole to mount on when balancing the wheel. The hole differed so much in size (many millimeters) that you couldn't use the same adapter on every rim. This diff in tolerances surprised me to be honest and to be picky you could spot some imperfections in the cast on two of the rims. Might just be me being fussy.

Somehow they didn't look as good mounted on the car as I hoped, maybe that is the reason I'm biased against them. Maybe I need me a set of them beadlock rings to complete the look? Wink

bpman & pom

The LED:s really put everything else I have ever seen, as far as vehicular lighting go, to shame
Event though they cost a bundle, from my perspective it's worth every penny!
