Laughing On a serious note, the 10 year warranty, decent heating and grade 3 insulation for all year round use was an incentive. John

Picked up my new caravan today, a 2004 Swift Challenger 520SE. Managed to get the towbar adjusted so that it isnt towing nose high like my last caravan. A few tweeks needed tomorrow..

It might have been mentioned but post 1998 vehicles can't legally have a drop plate added to them.

Looking good Steve Thumbs Up Hope you get lots of enjoyment out of touring as we love it, and it helps when it is done in comfort. Whistle

You could probably lift the tow ball up another notch as the van is still nose down. If it is completely level when both the van and tow car are empty then it will droop off level and nose down once the van and defender are loaded as the defenders suspension takes the weight. If it is in a nose down position empty then it will droop more once loaded, especially once you add the gas bottles etc. As it is a single axle has it got Tyron bands fitted? And is that a mover I see fitted?

And seconded for a tin tent section Thumbs Up

Brian.

Thanks for the info Brian Thumbs Up

The towbar is on its lowest possible position, using the combination of drop plate and adjustable slider. I think perhaps I could now do away with the drop plate to lift it slightly.

I dont think it has Tyrons fitted. The seller didnt mention it but Ill look through all the paperwork to see if there are any receipts. Do you recommend Tyrons?

Yes, you can see a mover. Its a Reich mover with electric actuation, but it takes ages to engage so I think a manual actuator would be better.

The previous owners had the van from new, and its immaculate. It was the first privately sold caravan I viewed, and it just felt right, so I shook hands on a deal. Looking to booking a cold weekend away ASAP Thumbs Up

I would feel safer with tyrons fitted on a single axle incase of puncture/blowout. Have a read of the link in my above post. Thumbs Up

Will do.

Hope to be pinching MartinK's idea and ordering a Karitek rack tomorrow to carry the bikes on the roof of my 110 whilst towing

Idea So when are the tin tent owners going to meet up and have a weekend in the lake district? Troutbeck head CC site by night for waffle and copious beer drinking, and greenlaning by day? Whistle

That sounds a good idea. We're off to Meathop Fell for a week in March as its one of the few CC sites that are open that time of year. But a long weekend at Troutbeck sounds good.

Like many areas of motoring law, it is clear as mud.

Tow bars etc have to be type approved for M1 I.e. cars.

For commercial vehicles N1 you do not need type approval to be legal
