I drain mine on a regular basis, every 2nd week, never had a problem with air in the system or the drain leaking afterwards.
Just don't completely drain the filter, or over tighten the drain valve. ... |

Rattle 2 was giving me the sh**s on a recent 4wd trip. The thread had totally gone, and the screw was happily spinning in the hole.

Cheers Lorryman, I did notice some jelly/silicone like contamination a few months ago on a routine drain of the filter. I ran a couple of bottles of this stuff through the tank.
