I like the measuring technique of fill up and measure miles then refill problem is this:
1) you never put the same amount in
2) when you put just a little in and refill your mpg will go up!

As said, my calculations are only basic - fill up, zero trip, fill up again, zero trip again etc., just using the pump's 2nd click-off. However, after each fill the average will gain in accuracy...

Re-filled mine for the first time last week (light came on at 301 miles), it worked out at approx 29mpg, though it wasn't an exact brim-to-brim test (just to the 2nd click-off).
