I’ve got pin to pin OME dampers, and standards springs. It’s very sure footed now ( for a Defender) and the ride is ok.

I get anywhere between 26-30 mpg. For a 90 hardtop td5.
I tried really hard once to get it higher, but it made no difference.
I don’t tend to check very often now. |

Start cheap.
Check for worn bushes, check for something loose.

They all come off when you replace the springs and shocks. As the originals on mine were 20 years old , I thought it was a good time to replace them with new ones.

Drivers side springs should be about 1/2” longer.
To account for the driver, and fuel tank etc.
In practice it doesn’t really matter if the springs are the same length. |
