ETA permit to enter UK?!
I just heard about https://www.etauk.uk/
Ok, so I need a passport again like it was 30 years ago, fine. But soon I‘ll also need to beg (‚apply‘) to visit the UK - and give a credit card number ?! WTF.

Only the same as we Brits will have to do once the EU gets its electronic visa system up and running. Andy

Like the USA, in fact like pretty much every country that is not in some sort of union.

You need to be street smart because with this come 100s of scan sites that at best 'assist you' with the application you can do yourself online, at worst just take your money. Always google and make sure you are using the official government site. Typically it will be straight forward, just a hassle.

One of the main drivers behind brexit was to remove the bureaucracy, but I think anything 'across the border' now involve more BS. Probably not affecting the 'call the midwife' crowd longing back for the glorious 50s.

Thanks guys. It's ridiculous to do this between Europe and UK (EU visa??). Bloody Brexit.

"One of the main drivers behind brexit was to remove the bureaucracy, "
Rolling with laughter yes, sure.

"Like the USA" - yeah, not exactly a promising perspective. Next then is a Carnet de Passage for the Landy and a scan of your underpants and social media activities ?!

Brexit is a disaster. The barriers and cost its put up for us as a business is ridiculous. It's also significantly reduced competitiveness and access to talent and skills.

It's also frustrating personally and for business with the 90 day rule now that we are a third country.

No one has still shown any tangible benefits of Brexit.

Rant over. Good luck with your application. Thumbs Up Eiger Grey MY23 D250 SE with bits. Known as Noddy.

And don't forget you'll in any case only be allowed to stay in the UK for 90 days in any six-month period, the same as we're only allowed to stay for 90 days in the EU.

I could only legally get to live permanently in my own house in France by going through the rigmarole of getting a Residence Permit (actually, less difficult than my German wife getting "Settled [UK] Status", even though she'd lived here and worked as a German teacher since 2005, because it was on seasonal contracts it wasn't at first accepted).

But the UK is a democracy and it's what the majority voted for...
