Removable tow hitch - not locating
When trying to fit the removable tow bar the hitch would not locate and lock in the socket. The socket guard had been removed and the pins were in the correct location for connection. I am suspecting some corrosion in the socket as a tap or 2 with a hammer got it in and locked. It came back out again with no issues.

Anyone else had this issue and what did they do. I am hesitant to lubricate the socket in case it attracts and keeps dirt in it.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Yes, had this problem several times. Dealer replaced the whole thing under warranty eventually when I kicked up merry hell in the showroom after they fobbed me off and pretended they’d sorted it.

The replacement has rusted as well, so I’m back where I started. I’ve given up with the dealer though as A. they’re incompetent and B. the fact is that it’s a s**t design and prone to it. I’m going to fit a proper fixed multi-height towbar instead as that will not suffer the issue and will give me confidence when towing.

I will be switching from the electrically deployable to a US-type 2" square receiver. My electrically deployable hitch will be up for sale shortly complete with all wiring and electronics...

I spray mine with GT85, silicon based. WD-40 is 'sticky' to dirt and dust, I am told ??
