2009 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 SW Keswick Green
Turbo Timer
Hi guys,
Is it worth to fix a turbo timer for puma tdci engine? If so, could anybody give me a clue?, Currently I switch off the engine manually about after a miniute or so following a rev up ride! I am planing to buy it from ebay?

I remember there being quite a lot of hype about these things in the early '90s when turbo diesel engines were becoming much more common, usually accompanied by dire warnings of turbos self-destructing left, right and centre. In practice though, given the number of turbo diesel engines in use, if it was that much of a problem then they would have been built into all of those vehicles from new.

I'm not saying that it's a bad idea to let them cool down a bit before switching off. I just think the consequences of not doing so have been somewhat overplayed. Darren

On the 300TDi Wolf vehicles the recommendation is to let the veh idle for 60 secs after stopping before you turn it off. Never known of a turbo failing though and I doubt many abide by the 60 sec rule 110 D250 SE HT

Most 4x4 vehicles used in the Andes have turbo timers. This because it is all the way uphill and engines at such altitude work at high rpms and people are not willing to wait sitting until the turbo has slowed down and cooled. Puma 110" SW
