Collision avoidance and emergency lane keeping
Both of these features have activated on my D250 when it wasn't necessary, almost causing a crash in one case.

l know you can turn them off in the settings, but they turn back on next time you use the vehicle. ls this another safety system that's required on new vehicles?

ls there any way to disable them so they don't switch back on every time you use the vehicle?

Yes part of the nanny state nonsense.

And no, to my knowledge there’s no way to turn them off permanently. I am hoping the people doing the IID Tool will find a setting to allow us to do that.

Unusually, I had a few collision alarms yesterday actually. Mostly due to cyclists whipping through traffic in London Rush hour. They usually just trigger the parking assistance beeping. But yesterday, I had 3 random collision warnings. But only the alarm, not emergency braking.

Did you get actual emergency braking?
What caused it?

I understand the emergency braking is going to become mandatory in the next few years - like abs. Should save a lot of daft bumps.

l was turning right and a car passed in the other direction, l was still moving at around 5mph and had not started to turn.
Because l was turning, l was right next to the centre of the road.

The Defender braked suddenly and l thought something had hit me from behind, the engine also cut out and l had to re start it.

On the single lanes we have up here everyone in the Highlands those features are just plain leathal. In the 50k we put on the 110 there were at least an occasion a week where it tried to turn me into oncoming traffic!

l've bought the GAP diagnostic tool and hopefully there will be a way to turn this off, or at least the vehicle remembers your settings so once you turn it off in the menu it stays off.

Can’t say I’ve noticed much of an issue with mine, emergency braking activation is set to normal in the settings. 24MY 90 D250 HSE, Tasman Blue

lt always defaults to "Normal"

lf you change anything it reverts to "Normal" next time you use the vehicle
