Accomodation costs...
There is the expression about something costing an arm and a leg, well this would also need your heart and lungs thrown in too.
One converted room with a single bed costing the equivalent of £1,149.20 per month in Dublin.

And they wonder why depression and mental illness is on the way up.

They have built a block of flats nearby, no parking allowed or given space for. The road has double yellow lines along most of it and now they are going to keep a traffic restriction that the council was 'trialling' but it transpired that the consultancy was fixed.

Yep, live on your own and don't expect friends or family any time soon.

As with anything else, it will follow the law of supply and demand.
If the demand increases and the supply remains the same, the price will go up. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

If that set up doesn't work for people they won't buy or rent there. Many people are happy to rely on public transport. I have a nephew and niece in London that see no need to learn to drive or have a car. Oddly it seems many kids now think the same. Confused Eiger Grey MY23 D250 SE with bits. Known as Noddy.

Extra problem in Ireland - rent controls. Politicians think they sound great but all they do is drive down supply. There have been queues of people to view rental flats.
