fuel pump replacemnt

Hi,
Just when i got past all the bits i thought were going to be a hassle and got a bit complacent .....

td5 110 2004, fuel tank on trolley jack + bit of wood gradually lowering it down trying to get at the pipes and the power lead to unplug them and theres crack .... one of the pipes ( looking at the fuel finter the one at the front on the right ) snapped at the pump end!

so how are you suposed to get at the damn pipes? can reach them through the NS rear wfheel arch ... just .... but damned if i can see or feel what you're supposed to press to unplug them.

Also, the power connector, its supposed to have 2 buttons on the sides to squeeze to unlatch it .... they arent there, guess they must have fallen off at some point.

and just when it couldnt get worse, took a coiuple if photos with my iphone ... and then it died, waiting for it to charge up. pah!

as i said at the moment tank is on jack + wood. The filler pipe is still over the toip of the chasses N S if tabk needs to go down so you can move it to the passenger side when the pipes are unplugged .

Are you supposed to unclip pipes from the clips in order to give yourself a bit more room?

You cut a hole in the floor. Sounds rought but trust me to have access for future is nice. I mounted a plate with screws

Tank out
So.....

remove NSR wheel
lower tanka bit and you can get at the fuel pipes and the electrical connector

After that, getting tank out was simples..... Santa - 1977 Series 3 - new chassis, tub, disc brakes,SU Carb

ok so all sorted. ...and you can replace the tank and fuel cradle yourself.

Bascially, slide your feet under the car with fuel tank on your legs.
the power cable is long enoguh to plug in at this point
Lift up tank feeding fuel filler over crossmember alomg with hose to fuel filler cap.
Using axle stands to roughly hold tank in place and feed breather pipe to NSR wheelarch
Using trolly jack and block of wood lift tank up till you see the top through NS Wheelarch and fit
With 2 axle stands and some wood hold tank in place.
remove trolly jack
Take fuel tank cradle and fit in middle. Hole uop with 1 hand while using trollyjack to puch tank and cradle onto right position
Slide studes into rear crossmember ( best to do this from the other end of the cradle. If the studs line up just push at the front end and it;ll slide in
Fit M10 20mm bolts at front loosely
Fit m8 nuts at rear crossmember

Remember to cover everyting with cppper grease so its easier next time

Was so chuffed when she sprangh into life ....

Now to fix brakes on the S3 and the head gasket on the other td5 ....

i replaced mine with YRM Cradle. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back
