Econoseal Connectors - Disassembly
I'm wanting to re-route a cable which is fitted with a female Econoseal connector. In order to pass the cable through a small hole I need to remove the Econoseal connector. Can someone tell me how to remove the connector and if so can I reuse it or do I have to cut it off and fit a new one? Defender 90XS SW

I have the same tools as above, and they are good for the money but can be hit and miss sometimes. I have a selection of dental tools at my disposal, and they are some of the handiest yet oddest pieces of kit I have in the toolbox.

The econoseals can be a bit frustrating- can’t remember which side is which (female / male) but if you remove the yellow cover plates you will see slots above the terminals, using a flat thin blade type removal tool insert this to push the tang down and then remove the terminal. You may need to give it some vertical pressure to move the tang if it’s not playing game, but persevere and you’ll get there.

Give the terminals an inspection when they are out, i had corrosion on my bulkhead connectors which led me to reterminate the lot.

On reassembly give the seal some lubrication on insertion to help it slip on in (all innuendo’s on purpose).

I've managed to disassemble the connector following advice from Zippo - many thanks. I also did it without any specialist tools but thanks all the same Supacat. Defender 90XS SW

Have got a few different terminal removal tools/kits but for econoseal I always just default to using a cheap scribe tool from toolstation:

A safety pin works well on Econoseals, Multilocks, HM series, and many other types, where the terminals are located by a 'tang'
