The standard switch (YUG000460LNF) is wired as follows -

Pin 1 - From Land Rover Timer Relay (PRC6796)

Pin 2 - Live from Dash Illumination

Pin 3 - Not Used (but internally connected to Pin 4)

Pin 4 - To Earth

Pin 5 - Live from output side of Relay (to light the tell-tale LED)

In the standard configuration, this switch provides a momentary earth path from Pin 1 to Pin 4

However, if you're using the (much cheaper) Nagares timer relay (GLR10) in your circuit, as in the diagram posted by Penfold earlier in the thread, this requires a momentary positive to trigger it.

This can be achieved in one of two ways -

1. Use YUG000460LNF to momentarily switch the earth side of a relay, which then provides a momentary positive to the GLR10

2. Modify the internals of YUG000460LNF to make it a live switching momentary switch -

Pin 4 - To Earth

Pin 5 - Live from output side of Relay (to light the tell-tale LED)

By cutting the Brass track, as indicated by the red mark -

The switch's internal circuit is changed to enable it to be wired as follows -

Pin 1 - Ignition-switched live from fusebox

Pin 2 - Live from Dash Illumination

Pin 3 - To Earth

Pin 4 - Switched Live Pulse to GLR10 relay

Pin 5 - Live from output side of Relay (to light the tell-tale LED)

Paul,
That is awesome - terrifying, but awesome..👍👍

Many thanks to both you and Penfold.

I assume that I can get the switch apart using my hammer - a bit like cracking a Walnut..?? 🤔 2002 Land Rover 110 Td5 Utility

Use a jeweller's screwdriver to CAREFULLY unclip the two halves of the switch -

Modifying the switch is free - but, it's then non-standard.

Using a relay to reverse the switch's polarity costs money - but, keeps the switch standard.

Wired like this -

Ah, got it.... So I'd need an extra relay before the timer relay to reverse the polarity to it..??

Either that or modify my switch (as per the excellent instructions) thereby making the switch 'non standard'..

Ok, I'll have a go - but I can't promise that I won't be back with more questions 😃 and possibly more purchases from Paul to replace broken switches, connectors, wires, centre consoles, dash pads, bulkheads etc.

Right, I'm off to find my extra small hammer....👍👍

The nice thing about these switches is that with imagination they are almost infinitely modifiable. A few cuts and straps and you can make them do almost anything. You can swap the latching and non-latching mechanisms between switches too. The switches in the 2x3 switch binnacle on Disco and Disco2 are the same family as well and great candidates for modification.

Cheers Blackwolf - good to know..👍👍
I am, in this case, going to stick to the script and not deviate in any way from the directions above (I know you're not advising me to..) - I'm well out of my comfort zone.
