Long standing Td5 resurrection
My Defender TD5 has been standing for at least a year, unfortunately I haven't been able to keep up with regular starts. I'd like to get it fired up again but would like to minimise any damage when I do. It was fully serviced just before its long rest and is in good shape mechanically.

Would greatly appreciate any advice on steps I should run through before doing so?

For example; syphon and replace fuel? Replace oil/fluids even if brand new before standing?

Is there any risk that cylinders will be dry?! I should mention that it is on a slight incline. If so is there a non-invasive way to lubricate?

Start it in the normal way. Worse case if it doesn’t start, but I very much doubt it - run a purge cycle then start.

You could take the injectors out then spin it over on the starter to pump oil around and get oil pressure. Then put them back in and fire it up Thumbs Up > 110 XS Double Cab

Mine has been stood in the garage for 5 years now, This was planned and had an oil change before the lay up.

I will be using it this year, I have cranked it a few times. Just remove your fuel pump relay and crank for a bit. You should hear the oil pressure build up.

Some fresh fuel as soon as it's running then another oil change with fuel/oil filters.

Spin it on the starter with the injectors unplugged for 30 seconds or so. That’ll build up oil pressure and then just fire it up. 12 months isn’t that long. Should be fine IMO. 2008 2.4 110 Utility XS.

When I picked up out latest 110 Td5 which had been stood for 3years, I took the fan off to gain access to the crank pulley and I put a socket and ratchet on the crank pulley to make sure it hadn't seized.
It hadn't so proceeded to fire it up and it was fine.

Wouldn’t just unplugging the crank sensor be an easier option?

I think by "unplugging the injectors" we are talking about the electrical connection on the front of the engine where the rocker cover internal loom connects with the external loom - not disconnecting the injectors themselves individually Smile 2005 Td5 90 XS
