Burning them out is not good for the environment or you, the smoke is rather toxic.

OK, I'd agree that burning the old bushes isn't great - but even drilling them out causes some stinky smoke.

But... I'm more inclined to take issue with the 'driving an old land rover' thing.

I don't know how old your car is, but mine is 28 years old and counting. I firmly believe that the "whole life" costs of keeping that going, as opposed to changing my car every 3 years or so, must be an environmental positive.

Yes, at the point of use, environmental emissions will be higher, but across the life of the car.....?

My point is nobody is perfect and nothing is very good for the environment. The method I've used many times works and that was the question. It's just a different method, with obvious drawbacks. My Land Rover is 39 years old, which I agree is quite possibly better for the world in the long term, but not if you're living by a bus stop and it's sat running belching out fumes. We don't live in a perfect world, but our old Land Rover's are perfect for us, just not for everyone.

Thanks for the advice everyone, I like to carry out as much work on the old girl myself as possible, incase I end up stranded somewhere and have some knowledge to hopefully make a repair. 2023 Defender L663 V8
